Born of a dancer/designer collaboration, this class is made to expand the way we approach interaction design. Drawing on the disciplines of theater and dance where the body is the medium and practitioners use a range of techniques for observing emotional and physical behavior to develop accurate and responsive work, this class will equip students with new tools in observation and creative thinking.

Design is ultimately intended to aid and reflect humanity.  Through embodied exercises, design explorations, and group discussions, the class will encourage students to ground their work in their own humanity. Students will be asked to produce a final project—reimagine an everyday object through the lens of theater and performance. Such object will be an expression of the principles of relationship, emotion, and personality through rhythm, space, and shape.

Accepting 10-15 students. Open to undergraduate and graduate students. Application deadline is Wednesday, March 18th at 11:50pm. Apply here.
